Everybody at the club is happy with Sydney's much-needed showers given recent bushfires have decimated parts of NSW.

But they'll be hoping the rain stops for three hours at the SCG on Monday night, ensuring a full 40 overs can be squeezed in.

The men in magenta were forced to split the points with Hobart last Thursday night, when only 6.4 overs of play was possible at the SCG.

Sixers then lost to Sydney Thunder via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method on Saturday night, when a total of 21.2 overs of play was possible in the derby.

The second-placed side now hosts the ladder-leading Stars, who have won 10 of their 11 games this season to be title favourites.

"It was a funny game. Rain affected, pretty funny wicket. It's not one of those things we'll take into the next game," Sixers right-armer Jackson Bird said of the derby defeat.

"It's a bit disappointing we couldn't sneak a win there but we got a big game we need to look forward to. We'll have a day off then get into it.

"The Stars are the team to beat. They played well against Perth (on Saturday), not as well as they have been but still got the win."

Bird admitted the wet pitch at Olympic Park wasn't the "average sort of T20 wicket".

But the former Test paceman added his team "had three run-outs, a couple of dismissals that the wicket didn't play a part in".

Monday's match is expected to be the Sixers' final clash before superstars Steve Smith and Josh Hazlewood, both currently in India with the ODI squad, link up with the squad.
