Not only was he behind the wheel of his 1976 LX SS Hatchback Torana for the first long trip in a while, it had also afforded him a prize in the Street Machine Summernats Car Festival in Canberra.
The Torana was awarded 'Top Interior' in the Top 60 Streetcars, for Street Trim's Wayne Birkin handy work.

Mr Kopp said he'd seen the work the Orange business owner had done on the 2017 Summernats' winning interior and tracked him down.
"There was a lot of work that's gone into it," he said.
"Towards the send Wayne wanted to keep it as a surprise. I was pretty stoked when I saw it."
Mr Kopp said Phil from Amazing Detail in Orange also went above and beyond.
He drove to Mr Kopp's house in Forbes to detail the Torana two days before Summernats.
In addition to work at the Orange businesses, mechanics in Forbes have done a lot of work to improve the cars suspension and exhaust since Mr Kopp purchased it from Dubbo in 1993.
Mr Kopp received $100 in prize money which he planned to donate to bush fire relief.
