From January 1, cigarettes will be banned from the site after a six month transition period which included offering therapy to smokers.
Cadia's General Manager Peter Sharpe said the decision had come about after multiple consultation sessions with the workforce over the last two years.
"Smoking at any workplace comes with risks, both to the function of the business and the wellbeing of the workforce exposed to second-hand smoke," he said.
"It has also been an issue for us in keeping Cadia tidy and a clean workplace, with too many cigarette butts being thrown onto the ground and creating a litter problem.
Mr Sharpe said they had also considered the rural location of Newcrest's Cadia Valley Operations.
"Just one cigarette butt could ignite a fire and cause significant damage to the site, create a risk to personnel, or worse, start a bushfire in our local community. We wanted to eliminate this risk before it became an issue," Mr Sharpe said.
"This has been a big change for our operation, however it has been the right step in ensuring the health and wellbeing of the workforce, and the improved safety and cleanliness of our site."
