Sydney-based company A-Tech Australia will invest $30 million to build an extrusion plant to make aluminium windows, doors, curtain walls, facades, pergolas and skylights in Orange for residential and business developments in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Company executive Barry Barakat said Orange-based construction company AWCON had started work on the site.
He said A-Tech had engaged AWCON to undertake civil works on the footings following a development application approval from Orange City Council.
"We envisage the footings for the extrusion press and associated lines should be completed in January sometime," he said.
"This type of construction will take some time for the footings concrete to cure correctly before any installation and testing can take place.
"Once the concrete cures we can then plan for the delivery of the extrusion systems to the site."
Mr Barakat said a development application for the extrusion plant and associated works were "proceeding as planned" for the second quarter [April-June] of 2020.
"At which time we can then commence operational testing," he said.
"If all goes to plan we hope to commence operations sometime in the third quarter [July-September] of 2020."
A-Tech was announced as having bought the site last September.
Mr Barakat said at the time, apart from work created for the construction of the plant, jobs would flow for people for the operation of the plant.
"In the short term it will be between 25 and 30 [jobs] and hopefully as many local people as possible," he said.
Under the plan A-Tech will lease other areas of the former Electrolux complex to other companies.
Mr Barakat said it was expected they would generate jobs for Orange.
The construction company AWCON has posted photos of its workers on the site on Facebook.
"Great times ahead for Orange with employment opportunities within mining expansion, health services, government and the re-development of this fantastic complex in the heart of Orange," it posted.
