The answer of 'no' finally arrived around 3pm.
The four fixtures across the city were all stopped around 20 overs into the opening innings due to hazardous air quality readings taken at the grounds.
Readings were then conducted every hour to determine if play could safely resume but the air quality index continued to rise throughout the day.
Eventually teams were told the matches for the day weren't going to resume and that cricket would resume with Wednesday's Twenty20 double headers, weather permitting.
Western were in the middle of a hard fight against ACT Southern Districts when their match was called off.
The hosts had worked their way to 3/90 when play was halted, with Blake Weymouth (24 not out) and Ben Mitchell (20 not out) constructing a resurrecting partnership for Western.
Earlier in the innings Bailey Brien (8), Tom Coady (10) and Brock Larance (16) all departed on the back of catches.
Weymouth and Mitchell added 41 runs before they left the middle.
Western coach Garth Dean said over the course of Tuesday's game and Monday's loss to North Coastal there's been good signs for his boys.
"They all looked fantastic but they're still finding ways to get out with their shot selection," he said.
"That's all it was. Brock looked fantastic until he got himself out. Tom Coady looked like he was ready to finish 200 not out before he sent one up in the air and Bailey, who scored 100 in first grade on the weekend, might be suffering a bit of a hangover from that with a loose shot.
"Ben and Blake looked great and we still had Lachie Coyte and Cooper Brien to come in, and they looked fantastic yesterday.
"It was unfortunate that we wasted that opportunity we had in the first game."
Western plays Central Coast and Greater Illawarra in Wednesday's Twenty20s.
