With his side cemented to the bottom of the table through seven rounds and facing a second-placed Cavaliers side looking to reclaim the lead, Roberts ran riot at Riawena Oval to lift his side within touching distance of a first innings win.
He picked up Cavaliers' first four wickets to steamroll the maroons' top order and leave them reeling at 4-56 before coming back into the attack to claim one more and finish with 5-59 as the Warriors kept their rivals to 195.
That fifth scalp was arguably the most important too. Benny Piper and Josh Ward had added 73 for the sixth wicket to resurrect Cavaliers' innings before Roberts removed the latter for 29.
Ward went on to finish with a fighting, unbeaten 76 but Piper's dismissal sparked a lower-order collapse to the tune of 4-10, with Gus Cornish (3-22) cleaning up the tail after he was sent back to the pavilion.
With 32 overs left in the day Orange City skipper Adam Cowden went hard early to knock off 64 of the target by himself, the Warriors eventually finishing the day at 3-134.
Troy O'Keeffe (10 not out) and Jeremy Bartier (7 not out) will pick up the chase with their side's third victory of the season in sight.
CYMS will be sweating on the Warriors going on to claim that win too, after all but claiming a first innings victory they could shoot to the top of the standings if they can go on to claim maximum points against Centrals.
The green and golds skittled Centrals for just 167 at Jack Brabham 1, sharing the scalps, and will resume on day with just seven remaining to claim the first innings chocolates.
Harry West and Shehan Fernando guided CYMS within touching distance with an unbeaten , 45-run eighth wicket stand. They'll resume on 40 and 31, respectively, with their side no doubt looking to knock those required runs off before building a lead and declaring in a bid to force an outright result.
That, along with an Orange City win, would rocket CYMS back to the competition lead and continue the standings' merry-go-round. Kinross enjoy a five-point buffer at the top but have the bye and won't get any points as a result.
Centrals White scored a landmark win, their first of the summer, in Third Grade's red-and-black derby on Saturday afternoon, knocking off their powerful Wanderers teammates amid the club's annual Charity Day and Christmas Party.
A handful of the Wanderers bats made starts as they posted 182, before Mark Hayman found form in the chase to inspire Centrals White's five-wicket win.
He came to the crease at 4-49 and cracked double figures for the first time in 2019-20, eventually belting an unbeaten 72 from just 44 balls and guiding his side home with 12 overs still in the bank.
Ben Sandford (38 not out) provided great support in a match-winning, 67-run stand.
In the other Third Grade games Spring Hill (5-205) easily accounted for the Gladstone (81), Orange City (2-127) knocked off CYMS Kellys (124) and Cavaliers (184) took down CYMS Bourkes (137).
In the second round of the Centenary Cup Twenty20 Tournament Orange City picked up back-to-back wins over CYMS and Cavaliers, the first by five wickets and the second by three.
The maroons face next weekend's third-round double-header, if they win both games they'll force a three-way tie with the two grand final-bound teams to then be decided by net run rate. Orange City and CYMS are deadlocked at the top as it stands.
