To be fair he didn't really say anything at all, and is a part of a government who at best isn't doing anything much and at worst has deliberately held us back from effectively tackling the problem.
Phil 'we've always had drought, and look over there that scientist flies in a plane which is hypocritical therefore all his science is wrong', while Reg 'there is some doubt within the models therefore I am not going to believe any of it' ... are both putting us on the wrong side of history.
It is a shame because here in the regions we stand to lose a lot, with more heat, drought, fires and floods affecting our agriculture, as well as a lot to gain from pragmatic policy bringing investment to our area.
Reg has rightly pointed to a good ecological track record as a council, let's take it to the next level and lead by example, a declaration of climate emergency is not radical, it is more statement of fact. Even the governing conservative party in England has done this.
Phil, if you want to hear what some excellent non-jetsetting scientists have to say on the impacts of climate change, we have some here locally who would be happy to give you a run through - spoiler alert, with higher temperatures, we can expect more fires, floods, drought and heat.
