Orange's mean rainfall for October is around 75mm but, as the drought's grip continues to firm, the region didn't receive a third of that in the last month.

Still, 20mm is much better than some parts of the region.

Currently 99.4 per cent of the state is in drought, with 33.0 per cent of NSW experiencing an 'intense drought', NSW Department of Primary Industries data shows.

Among the locations to record less than one centimetre of rain during the month were: Nyngan (0.0 millimetres); Dubbo (1.6mm); Forbes (2.8mm); Mudgee (5.0mm); Cowra (7.0mm); Grenfell (7.4mm); Oberon (9.2mm) and Lithgow (9.9mm).

Cootamundra received just over this at 11.2mm during October, while the Bureau of Meteorology's rain gauge in Parkes recorded 13.4mm.

While Orange, Young, Bathurst and Wellington received double the amount of some towns, overall the total rainfall was still way below average.

During October Orange and Young received 20.2mm, Bathurst had 23.6mm while Wellington recorded 28.2mm.

Weatherzone predictions show, however, that many towns could receive some rain from Saturday through until Monday.
