The 3rd Orange Scout Group invited their comrades from Orange, Parkes, Bathurst , Portland, Kandos, Grenfell and Bathurst for two days of air activities.
Pilots and ground crew from Scouts Australia NSW flew three of their four-seater aircrafts to Orange to give the 5-17 year olds a taste of pilot life.
While Saturday storms prevented flights from going ahead, Orange Aero Club provided volunteers to show the Scouts around the Orange airport and Toll rescue helicopter staff gave a tour of their hangar and helicopter.
Blue skies on Sunday meant the young adventurers had the opportunity to soar above Mount Canobolas and the surrounds.
Scout Leader In Charge Nick Geoghegan said there was some nerves among the younger Scout members but everyone was "so excited" when they touched down.
"They were blown away. The energy and the smiles on their faces when they got off the plane was just wonderful," he said.
Mr Geoghegan said the weekend was to encourage Scouts to take an interest in flying as a hobby and a potential career.
"And also to give them a once-in-a-lifetime experience," he said.
Orange City Council waived the landing fees for the activities and Orange Aero Club provided their facilities for the weekend.
Next month, the 15-17 year-olds will head to Mount Kosciuszko for a white water rafting trip and in January the 8-11 year-olds will attend Cuboree camp with more than 4000 other Scouts from across NSW.
The Cubs will join 4000 8-11 year-olds from across NSW for a few days of fun.
