The Great Western Highway upgrade between Kelso and Raglan has moved one step closer with survey work beginning on Monday.
The NSW Government is investing $30 million as part of the Great Western Highway upgrade program to ease congestion and improve safety for road users.
"Getting this survey work done means we can get construction started next year ... all along the Great Western Highway," Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said.
"Once complete, this will provide motorists with better access to Bathurst airport, an improved and longer-lasting road surface and increased safety, especially at intersections."
The project will also include a shared cycleway, landscaping and an avenue of trees.
Mr Toole said the Government was continuing to invest in the Great Western Highway to deliver a safer, faster route from Sydney to the Central West.
Survey work for the Kelso to Raglan upgrade started on Monday and be carried out between 7am and 6pm on weekdays and between 7pm and 5am on Saturday and Sunday, and is expected to be completed in two weeks, weather permitting.
Traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists and local diversions will be in place during work hours.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions.
