Campbell led from the front in a great defensive effort , propelling them to a 28-nil win to kick-off their campaign in style against the inexperienced but plucky Dragons.
Despite the Dragons enjoying a wealth of early possession, Woodbridge's defence remained stoic, Campbell at the forefront of that, hitting hard and often.
It was that foundation that allowed the maroon and golds to make real head way in attack.
Five-eighth Alicia Earsman was magical in only her third game of tackle rugby league, after missing the bulk of the last season after she picked up an injury at Baradine.
Earsman scored a great try early and set up the hard-running Sarah Archer for a four-pointer in the first half to help Woodbridge skip to a 12-nil lead at half-time.
Archer was then in the thick of it in the second period, too, leading a long kick chase before getting one-on-one with the Mudgee fullback and barreling her into the in goal.
From there Earsman again took control, putting flying winger Paige Selten into a hole to score in the left corner before Archer, again, took the game by the throat charging over under the posts.
Full of running the entire club stood and cheered as under-18 player Nickolle Kirby, coming off the bench, pressured a kick, picked up the ball, stepped left and left again before straightening and diving under the posts to cap a memorable 28-nil Woodbridge win, the club's first in the open WWRL competition.
Woodbridge Cup coach Andrew Pull said the victory was just reward for what has been a difficult few years leading into the 2019 season, with difficulties getting the Woodbridge teams together for training due to the travel distances making the club's development a slow burn.
The team bus left Condobolin at 4.30am on Sunday to get four players to Mudgee, and Pull said the early starts and long commutes were part of the challenge.
But Sunday's four-grade performance - under 18s won 42-12, the premiership-winning under 15s scored a commanding 62-nil victory and the new, under 13s had a 26-all draw with the Dragons - was a tremendous effort in hot conditions.
Woodbridge heads to Bathurst next Sunday to face Panorama and Pull admits his players will be doing plenty of goal-kicking practice in the lead-up to another away game.
"It was our goal kickers' first game ever, nerves were a part of it, she can kick and will be on song next week," he said.
"Unfortunately we go into this game without Alicia Earsman. Alicia works for a great family business in Orange and studies at uni.
"Football unfortunately doesn't pay the bills. But it's a great opportunity for someone else to showcase what they've got.
"The Platypi will be a step-up in opposition so its exciting to see if we can keep improving."
