Operation Bathurst has been targeting motorists who are speeding, people driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and people not wearing seatbelts or motorcycle helmets.
So far almost 400 people have had legal action taken against them for travelling above the speed limit and 23 people issued infringements for seatbelt offences.
"Heavy traffic is expected this morning as thousands of motorists head home from Bathurst, particularly on the Great Western Highway towards Sydney and on the Mid-Western Highway approaching Cowra," Live Traffic warn.
"Motorists are advised to allow plenty of extra travel time and expect delays."
