While his past is shrouded in mystery - he is said to have climbed six of the worlds seven great summits, bathed in the Ganges with Hindu elders and swum the English channel four times - one thing is for certain, Goat the goat has become a vital part of local trainer Michael Plummers processes since his arrival in Orange.

Originally an acquisition of the racing club, Goat has become a permanent fixture of Plummers stable in recent years and surprisingly, he does more than flopping around with the horses and making a general nuisance of himself.
In fact, hes actually quite useful.
Using techniques he is rumoured to have learned while living with Buddhist monks in Cambodia, Goat becomes a calming influence on new horses introduced into Plummers stables, and provides valuable companionship to all of the resident horses.
Baaaah.
- Towac Park legend Goat
All the horses love him, particularly Hoffa Express, theyve really buddied up, Plummer said.
Goat helps to, I guess, de-sensitise the new horses we bring in, and get them used to having different things around.
It works really well, particularly with thoroughbreds. I actually picked up a new horse [on Tuesday], and the first thing Goat does obviously is go and introduce himself, and it seems to help.
While unable to tell anything of Goats curious past, Plummer explained the furry, four-legged stablehand immediately took a liking to his stables after originally being let loose as a one-goat clean-up crew.
The club actually got him out here to clean out some of the old areas and stables, but he sort of just flopped himself in front of my stables, Plummer said.
Hes never really left, so the club was going to get rid of him but I sort of said Id hang on to him. Its been really good actually, having Goat around.
Hes certainly well fed, and hes picky too. He wont eat off the ground anymore, even grass, unless its pulled out.
His latest trick, because all the feed is in garbage bins around the place, hes figured out how to get into the feed room itself and lift the lid off the bins to get into it.
Goat refused to confirm any of the rumours surrounding his past, and in a short, but candid interview did nothing to dispel any of the mystery veiling his life before taking up residence at Towac Park.
Baaaah, Goat bleated, curiously.
