Over 23 millimetres was recorded at the Orange airport as the city lapped up its wettest day since May 4, when a drenching of 39mm fell.
More rain is expected to fall on Saturday, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting a 70 per cent chance of 10mm to kick-off the weekend before more sunny weather is tipped to greet us next Monday.
Orange, on average, received nearly 80mm of rain each September. So far we've our dams have received half of that, with a touch over 44mm of rain already falling this month.
Tuesday also marked a return to chilly weather in the region, with parts of the Blue Mountains experiencing snow.
Following Monday's peak of 22.3 degrees, Orange reached a top temperature of 7.1 degrees just before 2pm on Tuesday.
The mercury is expected to rise again, with tops of 16 (Wednesday), 19 (Thursday) and 22 (Friday) to round out the working week.
