Last Sunday we held the first event of our annual Club Championships, that being the Men's Singles.
There were a good number of players who entered with the eventual winner being Bruce Johnston, who edged out defending champion Scott Osborne.
In the lead up to that match Ningshong Cai defeated Zac Osborne-Gillette 6/3, 6/0. Alan Hubbard defeated Rick Taylor 6/1, 6/0. Bruce Johnston defeated Roy Roweth 6/0, 6/1.
In the quarter finals Scott Osborne def Ningshong Cai 6/2, 6/1. Josh Ristvej def Craig Penrose 6/1, 6/1. Bruce Johnston def Alan Hubbard 6/0, 6/1. Carl Buchtmann def Tom Rouse 6/1, 6/0.
The semi finals saw Scott Osborne def Josh Ristvej 6/2, 6/1. Bruce Johnston def Carl Buchtmann 3/6, 6/0, 6/2.
In the final Bruce Johnston def Scott Osborne 6/1, 6/2.
The players who were defeated in the first round of the open, automatically progressed into a consolation round, with the eventual winner being Craig Penrose.
In the lead up. Rick Taylor def Roy Roweth 6/1, 6/2. Craig Penrose def Zac Osborne-Gillette 6/1, 6/3.
Then in the final Craig Penrose was victorious over Tom Rouse 6/4, 6/3. Congratulations to the winners and many thanks to all players who participated and continue to support our Championships.
This Sunday, September 15 will be the Ladies and Men's Doubles event. All the following players need to be present at the clubhouse at 9.45 am, for a 10am start unless previously notified; Kevin Firman, Anthony Miklich, Carl Buchtmann, Joshua Ristvej, Ningshong Cai, Tom Rouse, Col Parsons, Graham Hayne, Brad Penrose, Roy Roweth, Rod Buesnel, Daniel Kozul, Scott Osborne, Zac Osborne-Gillette, Chrissie Kjoller, Meagan Fitzgerald, Lindy Powell and Elizabeth Grady.
The weekly Mixed Social will be held at a slightly later time in the afternoon.
Tennis players of Orange, do not forget our annual Seniors' Tournament, which is now right on our door step on September 21 and 22.
All players who are affiliated with Tennis NSW can enter, by phoning our clubhouse on 63628020. Entries close next Wednesday, September 18 so get your entries in quick.
Week 17 of the Winter Warmers Comp on Wednesday night, had a few more players now that the nights are not so frosty. Max Powell and Elizabeth Grady were the winners on three sets/19 games. In second spot was Chrissie Kjoller and Nick Powell on two/18 and third spot went to Col Parsons and Anthony Miklich with one/14.
The Turn Up Tuesday Junior Comp had 16 players who took to the courts. Winners this week, all on 24 games each were Max Reidy, Steph Gersbach and Phoebe Johnston.
The school holidays are creeping up fast and as usual we will be holding clinics for the kids from Monday, September 30 to Wednesday, October 2, from 9.30-12.30pm each day. Please phone the clubhouse on 63628020 to enter.
