The challenge sees teams of friends, families, schools and colleagues raise money in the lead up to an overnight event, where team members take turns walking around a track to signify that cancer never rests.
The Cancer Council puts on a host of activities which includes live entertainment, team challenges, games for children, and a candlelight ceremony which honours those who have died.
Bree Kelly, Community Relations Coordinator for Cancer Council NSW said volunteers are key to bringing this event together.
"They have a real impact on their local community when they're ready to go that extra mile and create a meaningful and moving, unique experience for so many Orange locals impacted by cancer," she said.
Roles that form the organising group are marketing, media, social media, entertainment, challenges and activities, ceremonies, survivors and carers, food experience, team recruitment and support, business engagement and sponsorship, school and youth engagement, event logistics, secretary and a chairperson.
In it's 17th year, Orange and District Relay For Life has raised just shy of $1.8 million for Cancer Council NSW.
The event on March 14-15 aims to raise another $100,000 to support people affected by cancer, fund research and improve cancer prevention.
