Andrew Bailey from Tactical Electrical, which also stocks Jaycar products, said the business located near the Woolworths car park was broken into after offenders used a sledgehammer to break through the glass door about 4.30am.
They took about $2000-worth of camera equipment.
"It was a smash and grab," Mr Bailey said.
I'm considering shutting the business because of a lack of turnover.
- Andrew Bailey
He said the business's alarm system scared off the thieves and police arrived quickly, but just missed them.
"We're struggling at the moment, our sales are way down - this is a loss of trade and a loss of stock, and insurance claims," he said.
"It's a real kick in the guts."
Mr Bailey said the drought had already contributed to a 50 per cent drop in sales in the past 12 months, despite a growing emphasis on STEM subjects in schools.
He said other businesses in the area were also feeling the effects.
"I'm considering shutting the business because of a lack of turnover," he said.
"It costs me more to go to work than I earn."
Central West Police District Chief Inspector Scott Rayner said police were looking for two men following sightings from witnesses - both 170-180 centimetres in height and wearing jumpers and beanies.
One was stocky in build while the other was of medium build - they were seen getting into a car and exiting from the car park onto Sale Street.
Police are still investigating - anyone with information is urged to contact Orange Police Station on 6363 6399.
