House Rules contestants and half-brothers Tim Clark and and Mat Cassim, who were runners-up during this year's series, visited Orange's Bunnings Warehouse on Saturday for demonstrations and competitions.
About 30 people watched the duo install a benchtop followed by a sink before challenging some of the children to help assemble a kitchen cabinet.
Afterwards, they demonstrated tiling and grouting, showing just how fiddly the job could be.
With the glue setting as they were laying the tiles, they advised the crowd to work quickly, but then take their time when it came to sealing the benchtop to the tiles with silicone.
"Use soapy water on your hands so it doesn't stick to your hands," Mr Cassim said.
"Soapy water prevents the silicone sticking to what you haven't applied it to, that helps you keep a really nice, clean line."
While the brothers scored highly during House Rules for their craftsmanship, they said their favourite moments were the silly ones.
"My favourite moment was when I hit [Mat] on the back of the head with a cake," Mr Clark said.
Mr Cassim said he had to take shopping duties away from Mr Clark after he bought a teacup with a chihuahua on it for a high-end house.
"I said I'm doing the shopping, that was the definitive moment," he said.
