AS much as Orange Emus captain Mark Grivas would have loved to hoist the Blowes Clothing Cup third grade premiership trophy on Saturday instead of watching his Bathurst Bulldogs counterpart do so, he still had reason to be thankful.

Grivas knows that his Emus and the Bulldogs outfit which won 22-13 were lucky to be able to play on grand final day in front of a bumper crowd at Ashwood Park.
It because Bulldogs and Emus were the only two sides that played the entire third grade season.
Cowra did muster enough players to field a team on a few occasions, but for the third grade competition to remain viable, Grivas said more clubs need to make the effort to support it.
Even for Bulldogs and Emus to attract players again with the prospect of only sporadic games would be difficult.
"It's good Central West supported the third grade comp, but both us and Bulldogs I'm sure would love nothing more than to see a few more teams in the comp next year," he said.
"We need more clubs to get behind it and work to get more numbers because it has made a big difference at our club having the thirds around.
"We all love it, even us old blokes who have been around for awhile, we love the opportunity to still have a run around.
"Credit to Bathurst and to Emus at a board level for supporting and pushing the third grade competition and keeping it going."
