Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters were called to the oval on Maxwell Avenue at 3.35pm on Thursday, with the grass fire quickly put under control.
A grass fire was previously reported in the same area in early August.
Orange Hockey Association president Graham Cullen said the facility had been free from incident recently after a spate of fires and break-ins last year.
He said Orange City Council had mounted CCTV cameras and a grant of $15,000 a few years ago had allowed them to install security fencing.
It's also become quite a serious offence now with serious penalties if they get out of control.

"We did a bit of work and removed some rubber we realised was being lit up," he said.
Mr Cullen said there are people at the centre five days a week playing hockey, which means it's not just sports equipment, trophies, computer equipment and electricals at risk.
Orange Hockey Association is also preparing to host its first Premier League Hockey grand finals since 2002, after CYMS won their major semi-final against Bathurst St Pat's last Saturday.
The men's and women's PLH deciders will be on the Mavis Davis Field, adjacent to Glenroi Oval, on Saturday, August 31.
Orange fire station officer Brad Monico said deliberately lit fires pose an obvious threat to life and property.
"It's also become quite a serious offence now with serious penalties if they get out of control," he said.
"It's also a diversion of our resources away from other more potentially dangerous incidents."
Central Western Police District's Chief Inspector Peter Atkins said officers had been targeting the Glenroi and Bowen areas recently and had made a number of significant arrests.
Inspector Atkins said despite a burnt-out car being discovered off Bloomfield Road on Tuesday, there'd been a reduction in crime in Orange.
He said there had been a reduction in break and enters, vehicle theft and alcohol-related domestic violence assaults in the last two months.
Meanwhile, there's been 25 homes damaged or destroyed by fire so far this winter and firefighters are urging people to take care in the final week of the season.
During June and July firefighters have been called to four house fires in Orange.
