A large number of visitors to Open Days are students about to finish Year 12 who, in just a few months, will be nervously waiting for their ATAR results. It's a very stressful time for students, fuelled by the misconception that their Year 12 results define them and set their course for the future.
We are thinking of all the Year 12 students out there and encourage all to work hard and do your best, set goals, aim high whether that be to tertiary education or another path that is right for you.
If you do dream of studying at university, don't give up or think that dream is out of reach. Consider Charles Sturt not only for the wide range of excellent courses and the highest graduate employment rate in the country, but also for the fun, the friendships and the unique experiences you get from university life.
To help take off some of that ATAR pressure, consider applying for the Charles Sturt Advantage - our new early entrance program that recognises critical skills that might not always be reflected in your academic results. The Charles Sturt Advantage helps us identify "soft" skills in potential students which are so important in life and to the future workforce. Soft skills include initiative, resilience, communication, emotional intelligence, leadership, creativity and problem solving.
Charles Sturt University is named after the highly respected explorer Captain Charles Sturt, who led expeditions in 1828-30 that traced several of our westward-flowing rivers, establishing that they all merged into the Murray River.
Captain Charles Sturt had something special - a curious mind, an entrepreneurial spirit, and he wasn't afraid of hard work or challenges. He had what we now call "soft skills"- this was his advantage.
The Charles Sturt Advantage isn't just for Year 12 students. If you're coming to university later in life, we'll take into consideration your work experience as part of your application.
There's more to the Charles Sturt Advantage than just the early entry component. Once you're in, you'll be part of a program designed to support you to develop your soft skills, prepare you for university and connect you with a community of like-minded students. We'll nurture you through your Charles Sturt University experience.
