One man had his $337 fine for stopping in the bus zone on Sale Street outside Orange Public School overturned in Orange Local Court on Monday, while a taxi driver has also been fined.
Most schools in Orange have no parking zones in their immediate vicinity, which allow motorists to stop for no more than two minutes provided they do not step more than three metres from their car.
Those with mobility permits on their cars can stop for up to five minutes.
No stopping zones and bus zones do not allow cars to stop at all.
Glenroi Heights Public School recently requested to have the words 'kiss and drop' added to its no parking signs as a further reminder to parents about where to drop their children.
Orange councillor Tony Mileto said the City of Orange Traffic Committee passed the request because Maxwell Avenue was particularly narrow and the committee was mindful about student safety in the area.
"It's a very tight street in comparison to others and there had been a number of complaints, that's what drew our attention to the issue up there," he said.
However, he stressed every school was different and the committee judged each situation on its merits, advising parents to abide by street signs.
"There are parking restrictions for a reason, to protect the safety of the students," he said.
"Sometimes it may be inconvenient, but they may be required to park a little way away."
In court last Monday, magistrate David Day noted Orange Public School was an older school.
"If the Department of Education built a new school, they would have to provide a kiss and drop and a bus stop off the road at great expense to the people of NSW," he said.
However, he also asked the motorist what measures he would take to avoid another ticket.
"Orange Public School is not going to demolish one of their beautiful buildings - the situation will continue until your child leaves," he said.
