Orange High, along with Kinross Wolaroi School and Orange Christian School, took part in the Mayoral Cup on Wednesday.
They took part in two debates, one on whether local councils should invest more in emerging technologies to deliver the best result for future generations and whether it was Orange City Council's responsibility to reinvigorate retail activity in the Orange CBD.
Orange High's team of year 10 students Ethan Delaney, Abigail Kittler, Cheyenne Sciascia and Angela Weckert won both debates, taking on the affirmative side, and said the topics were challenging.
Angela said the debaters only had 45 minutes to prepare.
"We write as a group - other people write your points for you and it really works like a team," she said.
Abigail was named best debater and received the Kerri Parkes trophy, named after the Bletchington Public School teacher who was killed in a car crash three years ago and was an avid fan of debating.
The Mayoral Cup was held as part of Local Government Week, which will also include visits to schools.
