While a handful of Towac Park-based trainers will send hopefuls to Tyers Park on Monday afternoon all eyes will be on Peter Stanley's Cometus, the former Orange trainer is hoping his new, developing five-year-old can break his duck as racing returns to Bathurst.

After a slow beginning to his seven-start career Cometus has built steadily since resuming from a 43-week spell in mid-June, after returning with an 11th finish at Dubbo the gelding's picked up a couple of minor placings on the trot leading into Monday's Watermart CG&E Maiden Handicap (1208 metres).
He's drawn barrier seven and will carry 55.5 kilograms with Michael Heagney for Monday's sprint, which will also mark his debut at his new home track, he joined Stanley's team from Greg Hickman's Hawkesbury stable amid that spell.
The break came from an injury to one of his back hocks, Stanley explained, which happened on a walking machine.

"I've given him three runs and he's had no luck at the draw. I think he's drawn too close to the outside every time but his last couple of runs have been good runs, in good maiden class races," Stanley said.
"It's the best draw he's ever had since I've had him ... I think he's worthy of filling a place."
Stanley's runner will face the likes of Balon De Oro and Crimson Pageboy in the 1208-metre run, from the Orange stables of Alison Smith and Michael Plummer respectively.
Like Cometus is to Stanley, Balon De Oro's a new acquistion for Smith, the four-year-old being shipped to Towac Park from Charlotte Littlefield's stables in Pakenham.
Smith is the fourth trainer to take the gelding on despite his short, 10-start career - granted that's spanned the best part of two years, with a handful of spells - and Monday's run will actually be his debut on NSW soil, outside trials.
He's raced once outside of Victoria and that was his debut trial when he was in Darren Weir's stable.
Fellow Orange trainers Brian Gentle and Brad Draper also have chances in the seven-race program, which starts at 1.05pm at Tyers Park.
