Orange City Council community engagement officer Bill Josh has planted a lot of trees over the years, but he's helped hundreds - if not thousands - of people plant their own, helping re-vegetate the Central West.

He'll continue the council's tradition of offering a free planting session for National Tree Day on Sunday, this year at Lake Canobolas.
"It's a great community get-together," he said.
"We do it every year in Orange and normally aim for about 1000 trees.
"We're never going to plant more than what people are knocking down but it's good to reforest these open areas."
The section slated for extra trees is away from the shore of the lake, but Mr Josh said it was a chance to create a new picnic area by creating a grassy area bordered by trees, with islands of vegetation in the middle.
He said the tree-planting days often brought plenty of children to the events.
"It gives the kids a sense of the environment, of what's happening and they can come back and look at the trees they've planted," he said.
"Some of the trees they've planted are 20 feet tall now."
Orange's National Tree Planting Day is on Sunday from 10am to 1pm at Lake Canobolas, with marshalling from the Lakehouse Cafe.
The session is free, but outdoor clothes and closed footwear are required.
