Under 12 winner Sarayu Prakashbabu was the only player to win all eight of her games.
Nine-year-old Seth Wakista who travelled from Dubbo to compete in the tournament came second and said he had been playing chess for about two years. Eamon Fitzgerald came third.
In the under 18 competition, the winner was Kajan Kandeepan, second place was Max Ringbauer and third place went to Andrew Schumann.
Players of all abilities were welcome to compete in the timed games and results will be sent to the NSW Junior Chess League for ratings.
Tournament coordinator Joe Cummins said the tournament was held every school holiday and there was a high quality of competition on Thursday.
"What a fantastic standard we've had with at least 30 excellent standard players out of 54," Mr Cummins said.
"The kids learn to play chess at school or at home and us organisers run the tournament so they can practice their skills."
He said the event was also about developing social skills and prizes included trophies and coaching vouchers for first place.
