The visitors, who lost to Bathurst in the 2019 cup's opening leg a fortnight ago, triumphed in three of Wednesday's four sports but did so narrowly to earn a 210-190 overall lead.
A six-sets-all draw kept the two schools deadlocked following the tie-opening tennis fixture at Orange Ex-Services Tennis Club before Dubbo took the overall lead with a 60-40 split in the athletics.
Orange High School bounced back with a 1-nil win in the girls' football, claiming a 67-33 overall split.
Dubbo secured a victory by the same margin the boys' football.
The Mulvey Cup debating was also on Wednesday night.
Thursday's final day includes netball (9.15am, Sir Neville Howse Stadium), basketball (11am (Sir Neville Howse Stadium), hockey (1pm, Orange Hockey Complex) and rugby league (2.15pm, Wade Park).
