Attorney General Mark Speakman has announced the state government will spend $1.2 million in a major upgrade of security scanning at the courthouse.
The funding was announced in the state budget handed down on Tuesday.
"The budget has allocated funding for an upgrade of Orange courthouse," he said.
"[That includes] modernising the building's security with a walk-through metal detector and a single-view X-ray machine.
I anticipate the work will commence before the end of the year.

"I anticipate the work will commence before the end of the year."
Mr Speakman said the government wanted to increase security at courthouses across the state.
"The NSW government is committed to providing quality infrastructure to enhance the efficiency and security of our courts," he said.
The detection equipment will installed at the Byng Street entrance to the building.
The introduction of the security screening will coincide with the expansion of District Court sittings in Orange.
From February 2020 freshly sworn-in district court judge Graham Turnbull will be the full-time judge at Orange, Bathurst and Parkes.
He will be the first District Court judge to live and work in the Central West.
Judge Turnbull was appointed earlier this year in a bid to reduce case backlogs and deliver faster justice.
Mr Speakman said Judge Turnbull was one of the finest criminal barristers in NSW. "He has served his clients and the court with absolute distinction for some 35 years," Mr Speakman said.
