There's only one thing better than finding a good book: sharing what you loved with others who've found the same good book.
Readers around the region will unite over the pleasure of a good yarn this month, thanks to a book club initiative from Central West Libraries.
The seven libraries have shared 200 copies of The Van Apfel Girls Are Gone by Felicity McLean, with book lovers encouraged to pick one up and pass it on.
Readers are not required to check the book out from the library, just required to read, enjoy and then give it to someone they believe will do the same.
The One Library One Book program then encourages borrowers to go online to join the conversations about the book through the Central West Libraries Facebook page.
We've found it fascinating. We keep coming up with new theories because different things appeal to different peopleJan Richards
The page administrators will post questions and discussion topics to the group in the coming months.
The author of the part mystery part coming-of-age story will join the book chat when she guest speaks at the Orange Readers and Writers Festival in August.
Central West Libraries Manager Jan Richards said the book was selected after a rigorous three-month screening process which involved library staff, publishers and book reviewers.
She said the team set several requirements for the book club novel, which included finding an author willing to speak at the upcoming festival.
"It needed to be an easy read, have wide appeal and be Australian," she said.
Mrs Richards said the book is set in the summer of 1992 and since most of the library staff have now read it, they've all been reminiscing over memories and music from that year.
"We've found it fascinating. We keep coming up with new theories because different things appeal to different people," she said.
Mrs Richards said just days into the book club initiative copies are disappearing quickly and she's already come across strangers swapping the novel at the gym.
In addition to the books going from home to home, some hard copies of The Van Apfel Girls Are Gone are available to be borrowed from the library.
The book is also available to be borrowed as an ebook or audiobook.
