According to a Cabonne statement, "snow and ice" forced the lowering of boom gates on the roads on Monday afternoon.
Cabonne staff will conduct an inspection on Tuesday morning to determine whether the roads can be reopened.
"The roads have been closed to help ensure motorists are not at risk of an accident or being stranded on the mountain," the statement read.
An updated weather forecast predicted snow to fall as low as 900 metres later on Monday.
"Cabonne Council's priority is the safety of road users.
"It will endeavour to open the roads should conditions allow it. However, if snow or ice make conditions dangerous, the boom gates on the access roads will remain closed."
The decision came as an updated weather forecast predicted snow to fall as low as 900 metres later on Monday.
According to www.weatherzone.com.au, there was a "high chance of showers" on Monday night, and "possibly falling as snow above 900 metres" in the afternoon or evening.
Orange's altitude is listed as 863 metres, with the summit of Mount Canobolas at 1395 metres.
There was also the chance of a thunderstorm and possible small hail during Monday afternoon and evening.
