The cardboard hands were laminated and then placed on sticks. They were created by staff across the hospital.
Orange Health Service Lighthouse Project officer Mandy Debenham joined about 50 staff including doctors, nurses, allied health and hospital executives to walk the hands through the hospital to the Aboriginal Gathering Space where they were planted.
Mrs Debenham said they would remain in the space for about a week.
She said the project fitted this year's National Reconciliation Week theme, Grounded in Truth Walk Together with Courage.
The celebrations were topped off with a sausage sizzle after Thursday's event.
Earlier this week the hospital started National Reconciliation Week with the opening of the Yilimadha cultural room for Aboriginal people.
It is the first such space in a hospital in western NSW and was created with the Western NSW Local Health District.
