Mrs Murray was informed recently that her breast cancer had returned after a period of good health, so the colleagues want to raise awareness for the charity that has supported her.
Dreams2Live4 is an Australian not-for-profit which grants wishes to patients who are living with metastatic cancer, meaning their cancer has spread.
Mr Murray said while almost everyone knows about the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Dreams2Live4 doesn't have the same profile.
He said it's been "empowering" to see the "beautiful wishes" they've made come true for Australians like Mrs Murray.
"Because it's for adults it's less about Disneyland or SeaWorld and more about people wanting to spend quality time with family and friends," he said.
In less than two weeks time Mr Collins will run his first Ultra Marathon in the Blue Mountains.
Spurring him on will be the donations of many who have chipped in to fundraise for Dreams2Live4.
Mr Collins said in the first few hours of posting the fundraiser to Facebook they'd received more than $1000, and in a week they'd met their original target.
"It's been an awesome response so far - we've smashed the $5000 goal and I've just changed it to $10000," he said. "Michelle and I are both so humbled by people's generosity."
Mr Collin's 50-kilometre trail run will take him from Katoomba to Wentworth Falls, along the edge of the mountains and into the valley.
To train for the 2000 metre elevation gain he has clocked up around 65-kilometres a week, in between night shifts and raising his one-year-old Max, alongside wife Sally Collins.
Mr Collins said Mrs Murray is still working with Dreams2Live4 to decide on a wish, but it's been "amazing" to have so many people leave kind words and messages to her when they've donated to the charity.
"Anyone who has worked with Michelle knows just how caring she is and how compassionately she looks after her patients," he said.
"She is a role model for us all."
