Snow near Orange on Mount Canobolas on Friday, according to Bureau of Meteorology forecast

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the first falls of 2019 may come on Friday, with the mountain, along with areas near Oberon, Shooters Hill and Jenolan Caves all forecast to receive some snow.

The news comes less than 24 hours after one of Orange's wettest days of 2019.

According to BoM data, 39 millimetres of rain was recorded in Orange in the 24 hours to 9am on Saturday.

That welcome rain came on the back of a further 6.6 millimetres which was recorded in the previous 24 hours.

Those downpours came in the wake of a prolonged period of dry weather throughout south-eastern Australia.

According to a drought statement issued by the BoM on Friday, severe long-term rainfall deficiencies continue to affect large areas of NSW, Victoria and South Australia.

While this week's rain won't make up for these long-term rainfall deficits in most areas, it is putting a bit of much-needed moisture back into the parched landscape, according to a BoM statement.
