A COW had to be euthanised after a collision with a car on the Mitchell Highway near Bathurst on Friday morning.

Bathurst Fire and Rescue NSW station officer Doug Fisk said that police put down the animal at the scene and it was then removed from the road.
"I don't believe there was any injury to the driver, but the cow had to be euthanised," he said.
He commended the police on their discretion in what was a difficult situation.
According to Live Traffic NSW, the incident happened shortly after 10am on Friday, when emergency services were joined at the scene by Roads and Maritime Services personnel.
The highway was closed in both directions, with local diversions in place. Once the scene had been cleared,it was able to be reopened to traffic.
