Not that it was easy, far from it in fact.
In a see-sawing clash full of momentum swings CYMS led 12-6 at the break and extended it to 26-12 by the midway point of the second half but, as they did against Mudgee the week before, Oberon roared back into the contest with two tries in the final eight minutes.
But, as they had against Mudgee the week before, the Tigers had left themselves a touch too much work to do, they had one final crack in the last 30 seconds but weren't able to come up trumps, CYMS' line holding to secure a 26-22 victory.
It's a win that keeps CYMS in touch with three undefeated sides topping the table in Bathurst Panthers, Mudgee and Orange Hawks, something injured captain-coach Dom Maley desperately wanted leading into a string of home games.
Starting with next weekend's round four clash against defending premiers Panthers, CYMS are at Wade Park for the next three weeks.
Both sides looked to stamp their authority on the round three clash in a brutal opening period, and neither were able to convert their chances until the hosts finally opened the scoring at 20-minute mark with a converted try.
The Tigers held that lead until Chris Grevsmuhl crashed over in the 27th minute, with Ben McAlpine converting to lock the scores up at 6-all.
Ryan Griffin marked his premier league return with the green and golds' second four pointer seven out from the break to give CYMS the lead for the first time and McAlpine once again added the extras, pushing his side's lead to 12-6, one they held until after half-time.
The two sides once again traded tries after the restart.
The Tigers crossed almost immediately after the break and Farren Lamb's successful conversion locked the clash up again, until big Ethan Bereyne barged his way over for CYMS to give the green and golds a four-point lead, the margin not changing after McAlpine's shot was waved away.
Travis Adelerhof extended CYMS' lead beyond a converted try at the 59-minute mark and scored his second not long after, McAlpine adding the extras once to push the green and golds' lead to 14 at 26-12, with 13 to go.
The second-half brace backed up his double from the week prior's win over Blayney, Adelerhof has now scored four tries through the opening three games.
The result was far from sewn up though as the Tigers hit back in the 72nd minute and then gave themselves the smallest of sniffs by crossing again 30 seconds out from full-time.
With the score at 26-22 the Tigers had one final chance to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, but weren't able to as CYMS held to secure their second win on the trot.
CYMS will welcome Panthers to Wade Park next Sunday while Oberon, who remain winless but have picked up two points from their round one bye, travel to Lithgow's Tony Luchetti Sportsground to face Workies in the fourth round.
