But interim coach Darren Davies has warned Thursday's A-League clash with Adelaide United will mark the last Roar game for "a number of players" ahead of Robbie Fowler's expected off-season cleanout.

Davies hoped his 13 off-contract players could embrace a golden chance to secure their future by giving a rousing send-off for McKay in front of incoming coach Fowler.

Liverpool legend Fowler does not officially take over until Roar's disastrous 2018-19 campaign is over.

However, he will attend the Suncorp Stadium clash just days after being confirmed as the Roar's full-time coach.

Fowler met players for a chat at training on Wednesday but is expected to be more ruthless when he runs the rule over the squad after Brisbane runs out against the finals-bound Reds.

"There are a number of boys who will be playing their last game for the club, that's the nature of football," said Davies, who will remain as Fowler's assistant.

"But the opportunity is there (on Thursday), the boss is here.

"It's a last opportunity to go out and make an impression."

While the axe may be hovering over players, Davies said Fowler's appointment had brought some relief after months of speculation since John Aloisi's resignation in late December.

"It's a real positive, fantastic news. Now we can start to plan forward and getting back to where we should be," Davies said.

McKay's 271-game career will be honoured with a tribute at the season finale, along with veteran attacker Henrique - who announced an end to his playing days with Brisbane earlier this week.

Three-time championship winner Henrique has already played his last game for Brisbane due to a groin injury.

The Roar will also be out to bounce back from their club record 6-1 last-up loss to Newcastle Jets.

However, the Reds also have plenty to play for with a top-four season finish up for grabs. Victory will seal fourth spot and a home final elimination final in the play-offs' opening week.

But a shock defeat will give Wellington Phoenix - who play Perth Glory on Sunday - a chance to leapfrog the Reds.

"We can't take them lightly. With Robbie Fowler coming in they have something to prove and a lot are fighting for contracts," Reds winger Craig Goodwin said.

"We know we will have to be on our game because Brisbane will be a trick customer. But the good thing is that (finals fate) is in our hands."

Adelaide United have welcomed back striker Baba Diawara from a lengthy knee injury at the expense of Jordy Thomassen.
