That's according to the Australian Taxation Office's latest release on the average incomes for each postcode in the Central West.
The ATO data showed residents with postcode 2800 had the highest earnings for the 2016-17 financial year, with an average income of $57,449 in that 12-month stretch.
The figure was calculated on the basis of 24,972 residents who filed their tax returns with the ATO within the 2800 postcode, which takes in Orange as well as Borenore, Cargo, Lucknow, March, Mullion Creek, Nashdale and Spring Hill.
The typical earnings in Orange have jumped considerably in recent years.
Elsewhere in the Central West residents were finding less in their pay packets each week.
In Bathurst's 2795 postcode the average taxable income of residents in the 2016-17 financial year was $53,915.
In Dubbo's 2830 postcode in the same period the mean taxable income was $52,600 - almost $5000 less than in Orange.
Though Dubbo had the lowest average income in the region, it registered the highest growth in average income in the last three years, growing by seven per cent since 2013-14.
Workers in Mudgee and Lithgow were also earning less than Orange employees, with those centres' average taxable incomes $54,571 and $54,202 respectively.
Earlier this week, in his fortnightly Central Western Daily column, Orange mayor Reg Kidd presented an argument of the city's strong and continued economic growth.
According to Cr Kidd, Orange is growing at a steady and sustainable rate, with the population increasing by 4,600 residents in the 10 years to June, 2017.
Employment is also growing, the mayor said, pointing to the fact that in March, 60 per cent of the vacancies advertised on job vacancy website Seek in the Central West were located in Orange.
The ATO said profession with the highest income was surgeon, with a national average taxable income of $394,866.
Anaesthetists filled the second spot with an average income of $367,343 and internal medicine specialists came in third with an average income of $299,378.
