After the bushfires at Mount Canobolas caused the cancellation of the annual event last year, runners will once again make their way to the mountain for the 11km uphill run, with a 5km option added for the first time.
Organiser Russell Tym said the family-friendly event will be suitable for mums with prams and for young children.
The start and finish line for the 5km run are both from the Towac Park Pinnacle Picnic grounds, with the gun fired at 9.45am.
The Great Challenge 11 km event starts at the same spot, climbs 520 metres and finishes at the top of Mt Canobolas - with a bus back to the start area.
Orange Runners Club members Hugh Daintith, Cameron Ross, Lachlan Ross and Jai Anlezark will take on the challenge as part of a team of six.
The boys, aged between 11 and 17 got in some last minute training at Fourjay Farms on the weekend.
Those interested in taking them on can sign up at www.greatvolcanic.org before Saturday 4pm.
Race packs including race number, bibs and any shirts ordered, will be available for pick up from the registration area from 7:30am on race day.
This year an additional race pack pick-up will be available at the Orange Visitors Centre on Saturday 1-4pm.
