This week our reporter Tanya Marschke was amazed to meet two fantastic grandparents who through sometimes trying circumstances, find themselves parenting their children's children.
While there's plenty of support for sole parents, these grandparents seem to fall between the funding gaps.
It can't be easy shelving retirement plans and returning to the days of packing school lunches and watching weekend sports but that's exactly what these people do.
One grandmother lamented the loss of a Sunday sleep in.
When we talk about community diversity we need not forget the fact that families come in a variety of different forms and Tanya's story served as an important reminder of this.
