While the 2017 car yard fire on William Street “was something else”, Mr Bishop said it’s all part and parcel of being in the brigade.
“It got a bit scary because the town water supply for that street was turned off so we kept running out of water. You’d stand there and you’d have a big waft of smoke come over you – along with the flames – time gets away from you but it’s your job, you just do it,” he said.
The father to Zana and Lily Bishop and husband to Sue Bishop said when firefighters are in the moment they are thinking of doing their job right, not what they’ve got to loose.
“You don’t think too much about it. You just get in and get it done. Sue worries about me every now and then but we take every safety precaution,” he said.

“We’re not after any special accolades – it’s just what we do.”
Mr Bishop said his hero on Australia Day was the same as any other day, his grandfather Harry Westcot.
“My grand dad is more of a man than I’ll ever be and he’s always been there for me,” he said.
