Usman Khawaja headlines the list of Bulls players in Australia's squad for the Test opener against Sri Lanka, with Joe Burns, Matt Renshaw and Marnus Labuschagne all fighting to be in the side.

It comes as none of the other batsmen in Australia's squad - Marcus Harris, Travis Head, Will Pucovski and Kurtis Patterson - have never played a Test at the ground.

"I think it's good we've got a lot of Queenslanders who have played a lot of games at the Gabba," Labuschagne said.

"I think some of the guys have been using Joe and Matt.

"Even though Matt isn't that experienced he has played a lot of games at the Gabba so it has probably helped just get the vibe and guys who have played a lot at this ground.

"Uzzie is always someone who bats at No.3 for Queensland and who has played a lot of games here."

Of the five batsmen fighting for three spots in Australia's top and middle order, Labuschagne is perhaps the most likely to keep his spot.

Unlike Burns, Renshaw, Pucovski and Patterson, he played in the last Test in Sydney and hit 38 in his only innings back after being recalled to the Australian side.

Now an opportunity potentially awaits for the South African-born 24-year-old on his home ground in Queensland.

"You always dream of playing a home Test in front of your family and all your friends which is always exciting," he said.

"It would be a dream come true if I do get the nod for the game on Thursday."
