Orange’s City Council’s major upgrade of Cargo Road between the Cabonne boundary and Ploughmans Lane is set to be completed by the end of March, depending on weather.
The first 800 metres from the boundary is complete, with works suspended around the Witton Place intersection and a temporary seal has been laid.
Council spokesman Allan Reeder said the temporary surface was designed to protect the work completed to date and reduce dust during the coming weeks.
In the event of summer storms, drivers may see minor damage emerge on the temporary surface.

“In the event of summer storms, drivers may see minor damage emerge on the temporary surface,” he said.
“This seal will be removed when work begins again on the final stages of the project.”
From early January, council road crews will prioritise scheduled work near the city’s schools while students are on holidays to minimise disruption when classes resume.
Crews will then restart work in Cargo Road around Witton Place and on the section near Ploughmans Lane, as well as complete the pavement.

The council plans to have crews back on site following the Australia Day long weekend.
The Cargo Road project began with contractors installing about 1.3 kilometres of underground storm water pipes, up to 1.2 metres in diameter, to ensure the upgraded road surface lasted.
Once complete, the road will be widened to 10 metres.
The council also used a temporary seal on the upgrade on a 750-metre section of Clergate Road last year when work extended after Christmas.

This year, the council continued progress on Forest Road, with the hot mix seal finished and the 130-space car park outside Sir Jack Brabham Park also approaching completion.
Street lighting outside the hospital will be completed in the new year and traffic lights will be turned on.
The council also completed upgrades of a busy industrial section of Lords Place, between Gardiner Road and the railway line, William Maker Drive from the Northern Distributor Road and a roundabout near Canobolas High School.
Road rehabilitation and resealing programs also continued, including Leeds Parade from Margaret Street to the NDR and William Street from March Street to Byng Street.
