Orange and the immediate surrounds were spared serious damage, with the State Emergency Service receiving no calls in the vicinity of the city despite storms and gold-ball sized hailstones falling in Lucknow.
SES Orange controller Kim Stevens said there were a significant number of trees down across roads towards Stuart Town, with emergency crews “leapfrogging” each other to the clear the way.
“We nearly had a chainsaw in one hand a steering wheel in the other,” he said.
One house in Mullion Creek had part of its roof and verandah blown off in the storm, which hit at about 4.30pm on Thursday, but no-one was injured.
