Luke Wade McIntyre, 24, of Sundew Circuit was fined a total of $220 for each of the two charges.
McIntyre was searched and found in possession of the knuckledusters and ammunition after police saw him accelerate harshly while driving in Margaret Street.
Soon after his vehicle bottomed out in a dip in the road surface and make a skidding noise while driving through an intersection.
He said he found the ammunition and when asked about the knuckledusters he told police “I always have them, I’ve been jumped before”.
“I use them for self defence,” he said.
