By blasting his second ton in the last three weeks Orange City skipper Jamie Stedman inspired his side’s easy win over Kinross on the weekend, which keeps the Warriors at the top of the Orange District Cricket Association third grade table.

A fortnight after hammering 146 not out against Cavaliers Stedman once again passed triple figures on Saturday afternoon and once again he was unbeaten, belting 10 fours and three sixes on his way to 111.
He carried his bat through the Warriors’ innings of 8-172, in which he was on of just two bats to make it past double figures, along with opening partner Mick Corby (11).
Stedman, based on MyCricket’s statistics, is now the leading run-scorer in third grade as well having smashed 443 at a whopping average of 73.8, although Gladstone’s Ben McAlpine is second and two of the side’s results aren’t yet available.
“It was a very lucky ton,” Stedman said, having taken the Warriors’ reins after the side’s original captain Josh Cheney was lifted up to the top grade.
“I guess you have to ride the luck when it comes though. Obviously it’s nice to get a few runs here and there though, especially when it helps the team get over the line, that’s the main thing.”
Evergreen seamer Andrew Rutledge led the way for Orange City with the ball, taking 4-13 to help skittle the students for just 77 in reply.
By MyCricket the greens are now six points clear on top, however once again Gladstone’s unavailable results may make a big difference to that – they played seventh-placed Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon.
In third grade’s other results Centrals (9-125) defeated CYMS (92) with Nic Freedman (3-8) and Nathan Totten (3-23) each playing a big role with the ball, while Waratahs (185) knocked off Spring Hill (157).
The Warriors’ second graders also picked up a win on the weekend, finishing off an easy win over Centrals.
Dave Boundy’s day one hat-trick decimated Centrals’ top order, the red and blacks resuming at 5-23 in reply to the Warriors’ 7-232 declared.
Ben Winslade (52), Gareth Faul (27) and Kyle Nonnenmacher (27 not out) all fought, hard, and helped their side to 169 in reply, with Orange City batting again and finishing 1-71 at stumps.
Cavaliers ripped through CYMS on the weekend as well to score what looked like a somewhat unlikely victory at the beginning of the day.
The green and golds resumed at 2-113 in reply to Cavaliers’ 206 and were firmly in the box seat, but the maroons’ attack were superb, snaring CYMS’ last eight wickets for just 33 runs.
Charlie Harris picked up 3-17 to be Cavaliers’ best with the ball, and was unbeaten on 12 as his side finished the day 1-57, with first innings points in tow.
Centenary Cup has reached its mid-season break, and will resume on February 2.
