Jason Battle has opened The Eagle Cafe in a small space at the rear of Zambrero fronting the Woolworths car park.
His Bezzera Eagle coffee machine takes pride of place.
Mr Battle said the machine, valued at $30,000 brand new, was worth far more than his car.
“I’ve got an old car, it’s worth 15 times that,” he said.
“I thought how awesome could a coffee machine be. I saw this and I thought ‘I want it.’”
He said it would help him create a great coffee.
“The barometer of a good coffee is how good the barista makes the coffee,” he said.
Mr Battle said he would be applying to Orange City Council for permission to put seats on the footpath outside the small shop.
He said he had previously run a coffee shop in Richmond in north-west Sydney and was pleased to have obtained the space from Zambrero.
“It’s a hole in the wall, it’s a pop-up. I really want it to do extraordinarily well,” he said.
He said he would have coffee roasting on Saturdays.
STEAKING A CLAIM FOR GOLD IN WORLD CHALLENGE
COUSINS Sam McNiven and James Millner were awarded gold and bronze medals for cuts of their Rosedale Ruby brand steak at the fourth annual World Steak Challenge in London earlier this year.
Mr Millner lives on the Rosedale property near Blayney, which is Australia’s oldest Charolais stud.
However, Mr McNiven said the victory nearly didn’t happen as the container containing their best cuts was delayed on the way.
He said they had to rely on a client in Italy to send over cuts he had in stock.
“The team is thrilled to receive this global recognition confirming Ruby Rosedale and our breed to be truly world class,” he said.
About 80 per cent of the beef is exported to 40 countries.
