Despite favourites Nicole Williamson and Cathy Johnson finishing strongly in the golf challenge – in first and second respectively – Ford’s fourth-placed finish in the darts mystery event later on Tuesday evening allowed her to leapfrog her two major rivals to be sitting in prime position heading into the second half of the Games.
Johnson finished 8th and Williamson 24th in the darts, with Ford now on 245 points ahead of Williamson (235) and Johnson (234).
Belinda Ferguson, Belinda Mills and Bec Bryden came out on top in the Queen’s darts section, while Rodney Moore, Todd Langthorne and Shane Howarth took out the King’s darts.
Jackson Leckie also leapt into first place in the King’s section after a strong performance on the fairways – he finished second in the golf event behind Adrian Priest – and leads the way on 285 points from Simon Wright (272) and Anthony Wharton (269).
Wednesday’s events include Lawn Bowls at the Orange City Bowling Club from 3pm before Orienteering and a Mystery Event later in the afternoon.
Thursday’s events include croquet at Jaeger Park and tenpin bowling at Orange Tenpin Bowls.
