Barry Collyer said three bikes were stolen from a shed at the rear of his Spring Street house early Monday morning after the thieves found a key to unlock a heavy-duty chain around them.
They dumped one bike, a Honda, near a gate before fleeing on the other two, off-road Husaberg bikes valued together at about $12,000.
He said the larger bike, a 650, was found at about 12.45pm in Orange with slight damage but the other bike, a 550, was still missing on Monday afternoon.
They dropped the Honda at the gate on the way. They couldn’t start the Honda so they dropped it.

“They levered the back door up to get in,” he said.
“I’ve got five bikes altogether with a big chain around them. They went through a cupboard and found a key.
“They dropped the Honda at the gate on the way. They couldn’t start the Honda so they dropped it.”
Mr Collyer said he believed the theft occurred about 4am as the bikes were seen and heard in the streets soon after.
He said he had been told a motorist saw the bikes being ridden on March Street near the PCYC netball court complex.
Mr Collyer said other motorbikes had been stolen from his property three years ago and they were eventually found in bush off Dairy Creek Road.
A boat on a trailer was also stolen about the same time from a driveway in Lombardy Way, six kilometres away.
Rick and Vicki Griffiths discovered their Webster Twinfisher runabout and trailer, which he valued at $5000, was missing when they woke.
Mrs Griffiths said a neighbour noticed a car in their street between 4am and 5am Monday.
“A neighbour heard a car quietly in the street and she looked out and saw a car with a trailer and saw something blue. The cover is blue,” she said.
Mrs Griffiths said there had been a theft from a car in the street in recent weeks.
“Someone is stalking around I would imagine. They saw the trailer in the driveway and thought ‘you beauty,” she said.
Mr Griffiths said he normally put a padlock on the boat and trailer but had not done it when he came home on Sunday night.
He said he had owned the boat for about two years and the registration number was VT531N.
Police are investigating both thefts which they said occurred sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning.
