Pope, the latest legspinner attempting to follow in the immense footsteps of icon Shane Warne, has opted to move away from South Australia and join the Sydney Sixers.
The 18-year-old is likely to be given a chance to shine in the Twenty20 competition, especially when Nathan Lyon is on national duty.
Pope, who made headlines with a haul of 8-35 against England in this year's under-19 World Cup then last month snagged 7-87 in one Sheffield Shield innings against Queensland, can't wait.
"I'm really keen to play BBL cricket and fortunately the Sixers have given me an opportunity to do that. To play on the SCG would be fantastic, I've heard it's a spinner's wicket," Pope told reporters.
"I've had a little bit of a red-ball focus lately with Shield cricket. It will be nice to get the white ball back in my hands and start bowling a few more variations.
"They're different challenges. Red-ball cricket is about consistency.
"White-ball cricket is about bowling a lot of different variations and being able to out-think batters a lot more quickly."
Test cricket remains Pope's ultimate dream but the teenager isn't getting ahead of himself despite the Warne comparisons and immense hype.
"I've only played three Shield matches. I'm more worried about keeping my spot in the Shield team," he said.
"If I can do that I'll be a very, very happy man.
"I'm pretty honoured to be put in the same boat as the great man but I'm trying to go my own way a little bit and just learn as much as I can."
