Announcing that the dam wall at Wyangala will be raised 10 metres in preference to constructing a new dam at Cranky Rock near Canowindra, Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Water, Niall Blair confirmed the Cranky Rock dam was not preferred.
“This is the preferred option,” Mr Blair said on Tuesday.
“We’ve done our homework, we’ve looked at a greenfield site at Cranky Rock versus raising the wall here at Wyangala and also the Lake Rowlands to Carcoar Dam pipeline and Wyangala, Lake Rowlands and Carcoar come out on top,” Mr Blair said.
“Cranky Rock, my fear it would be tied up in Green and Red tape for many years and we wouldn’t see anything flowing through to the community.
“Extending infrastructure, building on existing infrastructure has a better opportunity of providing flood mitigation but also of being built, that is why it has come out as a better option.”
